Chicken Gyro
I wasn’t sure how this chicken gyro recipe was going to turn out since the version I started with as a base said to marinate and broil in the oven. The kids liked it and they said it was a do-over so SCORE!
Over the next few months, I am trying to work with more slow cooker recipes for the family (and to share with you of course) that are a bit different.
As you can see above Bob made the Tzatziki {aka yogurt dip aka Cacik aka Greek sauce} and this is one dish that Bob always makes in the family as he is the Tzatziki king! Click here to view his Tzatziki recipe and use it on the sandwich and as a dip. We keep a large container of it in the refrigerator to snack on during the day.
The chicken came out very tender and falling apart like a pulled chicken but I attempted to cut it into strips like the kids are used to eating at our favorite restaurant. Once I cut it up I placed it in a bowl and placed several spoons of the juice it was cooked in to keep it from drying out and to give it a little more flavor.
Each person in the family eats theirs differently. Alex likes Tzatziki, lettuce and cucumbers; Spencer is Tzatziki only; while I like Tzatziki, tomato and onions. And then there is Bob, who eats everything on his. Wait. Bob is a vegetarian… did you catch that he eats them too? We use the Gardein teriyaki chick’n strips and do a fast cook on the stove top for this. {We didn’t use the teriyaki pouch.} By the way, the end result photo is a picture of Bob’s gyro.
