Kia Optima SX & a Blogger ROAD TRIP

April 22, 2013 by Billie Hillier 26 Comments

There is nothing more fun than a bunch of girlfriends hitting the road together except maybe when we are testing driving a car together!

Eleanor from Eleanor Prior and Wendy from Wendys Hat joined me to go to Bloggy Boot Camp in Scottsdale, AZ last weekend. I picked up the ladies up at Eleanor’s house at 4:30 AM and we hit the road.

It was dark when the ladies loaded the car so the only thing they were able to notice at first was that all of our luggage was able to fit in the trunk without a lot of maneuvering and that the interior was roomy. Once on the road I kept bugging them with questions about the car asking what they liked and didn’t like. I think if I hadn’t been driving they would have tossed me on the side of the road!

If you read my other reviews you know that I am looking for a car for either Bob or Spencer or both. We haven’t decided what is going to fit the family and our budget. We first test drove two SUVs and Spencer informed me that he would rather have a car than an SUV or a crossover {surprise because he is very athletic and I thought he would want something to carry all of his gear.} Right now the Kia Sorento is the to of our list and I can’t image what can knock it out of its place based on comfort and price!

Below are our other reviews and check back later this week when Bob will be posting his “manly under the hood version” vs mine. 🙂

When you first see the Kia Optima SX it looks like like sexy sports car waiting for you to jump behind the wheel and take it for a spin. For those of you who know me … know mama has a lead foot and likes to go fast and lets just say that this car didn’t disappoint and several times I had to place it on cruise to keep it at the limit. The girls would comment that the ride was so smooth that they didn’t realize how fast we were going! So the smooth ride and the ability to keep up with the highway traffic was not an issue.

The interior of the car was decked to the nines with leather seat, gripped foot pedals, nav system, sound system and more. This is a car Spencer would love to have but will not be getting {sorry bud!} as it more in the price range for a car for Bob than a first time car for a young adult heading to college {and a little too fast too!}

One thing that Wendy loved is that the back glass had plenty of room to keep her hats from getting smashed… ah, it’s the little things!

During our stay in Scottsdale we bopped around town and had a fourth person with us who is my 6’3″ tall girlfriend.  She obviously sat in the front and I wish I would have thought to ask her to sit in the back for a minute just to test it out for me – oh well. LOL

We only had to fill up once when we left from Las Vegas to Scottsdale and then once on the return trip back. I didn’t track the mileage but we were more than pleased with the mileage that we got on the highway on the trip.

Kia has really produced a car that can compete with other sedans with comfort and “get up an go.” My only “negative” is the price of the model I test drove I felt was a little too high for my budget at $36k for a car for Spencer but if we were buying it for Bob then that price might be more in line for what we would be willing to pay for him.
