Blueberry Dump Cake
My girlfriend Renee has an obsession… with dump cakes. Whenever we go camping she makes 2 – 3 dump cake variations while we are out in the rough.
A dump cake is a type of cobbler that you “dump” the ingredients in a baking dish {or dutch oven} and voila… CAKE! You just open each ingredient and “dump” it in the dish. Are you getting the idea? You dump it… dump it real good ~ sing this to “Push It” from the 80’s as that is the song that plays in my head when we make dump cakes. If you really want to get silly say “dump cake” to sound like the camel from the State Farm commercial when he’s saying “hump day.”
The key to all the dump cakes we make in the “wild” is to use a can of some type of soda that will compliment the flavor.
How do we bake dump cakes in the middle of nowhere with no electricity? We use a cast iron dutch oven and the coals from the campfire to “bake” it. Set the oven in the coals and a few on the top to make the perfect baking scenario.

If baking in nature doesn’t sound like something you would want to do, then let’s keep it in the kitchen with this version which doesn’t use a can of soda. Plus, this version is better because we can serve ice cream with it and you can’t really have ice cream on a camping trip!
While dump cakes are not the prettiest to look at, they are one of the easiest to make. Seriously… they are and they taste really really good… really. This is a variation of Paula Deen's Pineapple Blueberry Crunch Cake
