Chef Rick Bayless
Not too many women would be cool with their husband having a crush on someone else but I am 110% and A-OK with this one. Chef Rick Bayless is one chef that my husband has respected for a long time for his authentic Mexican food knowledge.
Through the years he will watch any cooking show he might be one, read several of his books, and more. He has learned a lot from Rick.
When I was in Chicago on business several years ago {by the book it appears over 12 years ago}, I had the chance to eat at both of his restaurants, Frontera Grill AND Topolobampo. AND, it just happened that I was dining at Topolobampo when Chef Rick Bayless was there! I left my dinner meeting to stalk this famous chef to see if I could meet him or at least get some cookbooks autographed. The ending of that story? I was able to get him to autograph two cookbooks but no Q&A! {OK, I had high hopes – you never know!}

I love it when Bob decides to crack one of the books open and test some of the recipes with the family — I can’t recall one that wasn’t a hit!
We love authentic Mexican food and Southwest food. Most meals that we have at our home or one, the other or a combination of both.
When we lived in Turkey 1,000 years ago {or so it seems} Bob also grew found of Mark Miller {Southwest cooking} and still makes one of my favorites, Roasted Tomato Salsa. Click here to view Mark Miller cookbooks on Amazon.
Coincidentally when we moved back to the US we were close to his restaurant Red Sage in Washington, DC that we loved to visit and was really disappointed when it closed.
One of the few restaurants that we have found in Las Vegas that we enjoy is Borders {especially their “buffet brunch}. Hopefully we will be able to explore more soon and test some other restaurants to see if they are up to Bob’s taste {and mine!}.
Who are your favorite Mexican and / or Southwest chefs?
If you are local to Las Vegas, give me some suggestions to go try.
